Roberston Timber Engineering (RTE) COINS Project, July 2021
We recently completed an interesting project with ROBERTSON TIMBER ENGINEERING LIMITED (RTE), supporting their COINS ERP implementation for Inventory Management.
RTE are a timber-frame housing kit manufacturer, who wanted to gain greater visibility of their inventory status and usage. Their legacy system (Mentor) was outdated and had limited stock management functionality. Parent company, Robertson Group had been rolling out COINS ERP across the enterprise and this was selected as the preferred system replacement for RTE.
Due to limited in-house systems experience and capacity, RTE engaged Vigent Consulting Ltd to support the COINS implementation for Stock Management
The basic requirement was to migrate stock holding from Mentor to COINS, leading to utilising standard stock module functionality to receive, issue and count stock. This was a 3-month project with the objective of completing the stock migration at the corporate year end.
Understanding the RTE business process was key to this project. Vigent spent time with key stakeholders to walk through the current process, identifying areas where improvement could be made and must have requirements of the future process.
Although Vigent had no previous exposure to the COINS system, our experience gained over years of implementing and supporting ERP systems was instrumental to quickly designing a process that utilised standard functionality while meeting the customer’s requirements.
RTE stock was successfully migrated on schedule and balanced exactly to the closing period on Mentor. The new process recognises the relationship between stock and work in progress and allows RTE to see exactly how much material they are using, on which contracts. This subsequently drives more accurate usage information which, in turn, facilitates an efficient and accurate procurement process.
